We opened our restaurant in 1995 in the city center in the Market Square. The place was two-storeyed with the imposing stairs. We named our restaurant La Scala. Ascending these stairs you can see many photos of the eminent guests who have visited our restaurant.
My husband and I have long and extensive experience in gastronomy. My husband grew up among the restaurant tables, as he often says. His father was running two well-known restaurants in Wrocław. My home was a special place where cooking was something special. My father was a baker, his brother a butcher. I have always followed the traditional ways of cooking avoiding semi-products, frozen foods, additives. In our restaurants we use only butter and olive, make pasta, lasagna and ravioli ourselves.
We have always been successful. As a young couple we were running a café in the 70’s which was a great success. In the 80’s we went to Germany where we were employed in a restaurant and made the place famous for its food and ambiente. The restaurant was even described in the local press. Our love for Italian cuisine has its beginning in Germany thanks to an Italian from Sardinia, an art historian who was running a restaurant. Most of the dishes served in our restaurant are created thanks to mu ability to remember the tastes from my childhood. Travelling all over the world I taste the locally specialities and try to compose the new ones that our guests would appreciate. My husband is the first to assess my creations. We both live for the restaurant, our work, love and passion of the cuisine and joy of the table. We follow our own concepts and visions always relying on each other.
With a bit of fantasy and imagination we introduce new tastes and dishes and everything we like to the menu. My husband says that you have to love people to be a good restaurant owner. What makes the perfect athmosphere of a restaurant are not weird projects of inner architects but care for clean table cloth, fresh flowers, candles and our presence. La Scala is a family run restaurant, my brother, niece help us. Not even the best manager can replace the family who care for the prestige and success of the restraint. The team we have been working with for the last 10-15 years has also its undeniable contribution to our success. Our greatest success we have been working for years are our guests, always loyal and enthusiastic. They take their friends and relatives. My husband care for them, greets them, says goodbye sometimes even makes friends.
Recently we have been inspired to open a new ice-cream café and confectionery in one in Zwycięska Street. Our ice-cream machines were bought in Italy which is famous for delicious ice-cream. We follow original recipes, adding fresh fruit and juices to them even better than original. I must say they are unique and the best in Wrocław. We also sell confectionery, cakes, sweetmeats, buns, cookies, sandwiches and Italian antipasti. In winter we serve delicious soups. Everything home- made according to old, traditional recipes.
